      • Analyzing, designing, and implementing software architectures. 
      • Communication engineering and systems security (Hardware, software, and network), including cryptographic key, devices, hardware, firmware, or software that embodies or describes cryptographic logic).  
      • Experience on Real-time systems, Distributed systems, Embedded systems, or Mission critical systems.  
      • Data architecture definition, framework, and implementation for military systems.  
      • Software Integration: hardware and software (COTS and/ or custom developed) components into new or existing systems. 
      • Employing computer modelling or simulation tool to complete software performance studies or development.

Job Description:  

KWESST is seeking talented individuals with an expertise in the Canadian and international defence  C4ISR domain to offer specialized software development and integration solutions to the Canadian Army through the Defence Software Engineering Facility (DSEF). They will be actively involved in all aspects of  the software development cycle with a focus on increasing system integrity, performance, reliability, and  maintainability. They will also manage, and support activities related to DLSCPM test environments,  including various unclassified and classified test lab environments, at various service levels, and support  any additional communities of interest and technical environments as needed. 

The Senior Software Specialist will be responsible for maintaining and developing Canadian Army  Command and Control (C2) Specialty Applications. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Review, analyze, and provide recommendation on software and applications interface  documentation. 
  • Recommend software related system level solutions for discrepancies, deficiencies, and changes  to equipment and specifications. 
  • Liaise with software development and application technical groups to ensure system integrity,  performance, reliability, and maintainability.  
  • Provide software and application integration, analysis, and evaluation support. 
  • Prepare the planning and procurement support documentation for software and applications.
  • Review, analyze, and provide recommendations relating to software components and associated  documentation. 
  • Conduct design, technical, and management reviews to monitor, advise, and report on progress  and potential problems. 
  • Conduct and/or witness software integration testing and evaluation. 
  • Conduct technical definition studies and options analysis; and 
  • Perform any other Work related to this category.  

Mandatory Qualifications:  

I. Experience:  

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience as a Software Engineer on Military C2 systems. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience as a Software Specialist within an IPT for an  onsite client. 
  • Minimum of 6 years of demonstrated experience in the preparation of technical concept
  • documents, system specifications, and technical proposals in the field of Information
  • Technology  / Information management or engineering. 
  • Minimum of 8 years of demonstrated experience in a minimum of 4 of the following:
    •  Communicating information technology frameworks/strategies to management and  technical staff.  
    • Communicating system engineering direction for projects or systems. 
    • Providing advice, guidance and recommendations on technical issues to support the  decision-making of senior management.  
    • Leading multidisciplinary teams in the development of IT tactical systems, frameworks or  strategies; or  
    • Performing strategic, operational or tactical planning for projects or systems to meet  corporate strategy.  
  • Minimum 8 years of demonstrated experience in 4 of the following:  
    • Software Engineering within a Client/Server environment or Collaborative environments;  Managing, Analyzing, Designing, Modeling, and Implementing software systems. Communication engineering (Hardware, Software and Network) or Specialty engineering  (Security, Modeling and Simulation, ISR); 
    • Software Engineering for Real-Time systems, Distributed Systems, embedded systems or  mission critical systems environments.  
    • Software Integration: hardware and software, (COTS and/or custom developed)  components into new or existing systems. 
    • Demonstrated experience in the field of Firepower, ISR, C4ISR, or Modelling and  Simulation software development; or  
    • System life-cycle management for software systems.

  • College Diploma in Computer Technology; or a Bachelor of Science; or suitable engineering or  technical field required to support Land C4ISR.
