KWESST today announced that in response to a request from an allied NATO country it has successfully developed a system to detect and locate laser weapons recently used in contested areas of the world to permanently injure or blind ground personnel.

The company is productizing three variants for test and evaluation by NATO and NATO allies: a compact soldier-worn unit that alerts personnel to the presence of the laser weapon; a squad version that also detects the location of the laser weapon; and, a vehicle-mounted version that also detects and locates the laser weapon. When coupled to KWESST’s TASCS system and indirect fire weapons, the location of the laser weapon is displayed for coordinated fire to neutralize the threat.
