ELECTRO-MAGNETIC SPECTRUM OPERATIONS SYSTEM

PHANTOMTM

DELIVERING MULTI-FUNCTION TACTICAL EMSO CAPABILITIES

MITIGATING LASER-RELATED THREATS ON THE BATTLEFIELD

The recognition that freedom of action in the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) – at the time, place, and parameters of a Commander’s choosing – as a required precursor to the successful conduct of land operations has been an accepted doctrinal canon for some time. Accordingly, land Electronic Warfare (EW) capabilities have continued to evolve and develop for land forces whereby today the ability of land tactical units to sense, protect, and manoeuvre in the EMS have largely progressed in lock step bound as they are under the banner of Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO).

However, in the pursuit to fully achieve EMS superiority in the land domain, the use of Radio Frequency (RF)/Electromagnetic (EM) deception techniques and capabilities has not progressed in kind.

This is a capability gap. Two trends make RF/EM deception critical for friendly force maneuver and survivability:

  • The adoption by Western land forces of adaptive and dispersed operating concepts; and
  • Recently demonstrated adversary capabilities utilizing tightly coupled sensor to shooter linkages between EW sensing and precision fires.

Accordingly, RF/EM deception serves to enable manoeuvre by small tactical elements and serves to increase survivability by sowing seeds of doubt into adversaries’ intelligence gathering apparatus.

THE KWESST PHANTOMTM

The Phantom™ tactical EMSO product line is designed to close this capability gap. Phantom™ is a multi-function compact, lightweight, selectively expendable EMSO system with two main functions:

radar (3)

An RF/EM Deception module with a full power emitter/transmitter that mimics the RF/EM footprint of friendly tactical units and entities thereby presenting an adversary with a misleading, complex, and confusing picture of friendly force locations, movement, and intent.

radar (2)

A real time spectrum analyzer (RTSA) that interfaces with operator End User Devices (EUD) running a Team Awareness Kit (TAK) based EM battle management and planning tool.

PHANTOMTM FEATURES AND BENEFITS

control-panel

Programming and Control Operations are achieved through a KWESST-designed and developed ATAK plug-in.

satellite (1)

Capable of networked and distributed operations through combat net radio networking communications.

soldier

The capacity to emulate all forms of battlefield tactical units and emitters, delivering tactical flexibility as situations evolve.

backpack

Small, low-weight, and low-power (SWaP) tech that offers small units with complete EMSO capabilities and advantages.

LEVERAGE TACTICAL ADVANTAGES WITH UNRIVALED ADAPTABILITY

The Phantom EMSO system offers the advantages of a complete EMSO system in a portable and adaptable format, allowing even the smallest units to control the electro-magnetic domain.
